Every year, Uganda celebrates the International Day of the Girl Child on October 11th. For the past five years, the Kaleke Kasome Foundation has been at the forefront of organizing the Girl Champion Awards (GCA) to commemorate this vital UN calendar day.
With the backing of the Ministry of Gender, Labour, and Social Development and the SDG Secretariat, GCA has evolved into a national beacon of hope, identifying and elevating young women who are rewriting the narrative of their communities.
"The GCA shines a spotlight on girls aged 14 to 25 who use their resources to elevate their lives and drive meaningful change."

The Awarding Process
National Nomination Phase
Nominations open nationwide via our digital platform. Our field teams conduct rigorous background checks and shortlisting to ensure only the most impactful stories move forward.
Judicial Boot Camp & Public Vote
An expert panel of judges evaluates the shortlisted candidates to select the final four per category. These finalists are then presented to the public for transparent, secure voting.
The Grand Gala Ceremony
A world-class red-carpet event held on October 11th, where category winners are celebrated and their legacies of impact are broadcasted to the nation.
